Your Way Basic Knit Hat
Design by L'Tanya
Durante
The
beauty of this basic hat pattern is that it can be embellished my way,
your way, or in any way. I've chosen to embellish it with novelty yarn.
In October of 2006, I attended Stitches East and got this novelty yarn as
a gift. I could never figure out what to do with it until now the chain
stitch embellishment is perfect.

Continue alternating decrease rounds with
knit rounds until 22 sts remain. Note that on each decrease round,
you knit one fewer stitch before the k2tog (see decreases for child
above).
End with knit round.
Cut yarn, leaving a tail
of approximately 16 (40cm). Thread a tapestry needle with the tail.
Thread through the remaining stitches and pull to gather.
Finishing
Weave in
ends. With right-side facing, hold novelty yarn under your work (wrong
side) and make slip knot. Insert crochet hook (from right side to wrong
side) and pull slip knot through to right side. Insert crochet hook in
next stitch, catch yarn underneath (yarn over), and pull through loop
(chain made). Continue making these accent chains to embellish the hat
your way!
