Family Values
"In every conceivable manner, the family is the link to our past,
the bridge to our future."
~Alex Haley~
Author of "Roots"

Most crafters learned their craft or at least had their interest piqued by a family member.  Like language, the joy of crafting passed down through the generations becomes a family value; it is valuable in one's life to do the craft of our grandmothers.  Crafts are a connection to our ancestors.

The Spring issue highlights the importance of family and craft.  In this issue, we also see the flexibility we have in how we define the word "family."  The twin designers of Double Stitch exemplify creativity and the joys of working in tandem as a family.  Other features include the value of teaching children to knit and spin, and the lessons taught and learned by a mother and daughter's collaborative stitching project.

This issue also honors our global family.  We take a fascinating look at lace knitting around the world and the way in which one company, Baskets of Africa, enables women to enrich the lives of their families through their work.

Once again, we welcome new designers and writers into the Black Purl family.  Great articles, cute kids, beautiful projects -- this is a feel good issue for sure and one to make you think about the importance of family, crafts and legacy.

Enjoy!
