Peace Scarf
Design by Gina Griffin

This is my first attempt at working with language. That's always made me nervous! But what's more symbolic than language? If I've done my homework correctly, Chart A means “peace” (free from war) in Japanese. Chart B, also in Japanese, means “peace of mind.” I thought that would be a good way to start off the new year.

Level of Difficulty
Beginner

Gauge
4 St. X 6 Rows over 1 inch on #9 US needles (or size needed to obtain gauge)

Materials
3 skeins of  Patons Classic Wool Merino in Main Color (MC) and 1 skein of Contrasting Color (CC)
US size #9 (5.5mm) needles
Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)
Tape Measure

Abbreviations
BO – Bind Off
CC  -  Contrast Color
MC – Main Color
RS – Right Side

Instructions
Cast on 48 st. in MC. Work in Seed Stitch for 1”.

Next Row: In stockinette stitch, begin chart. Work to end of Chart A.

AT THE SAME TIME keep first  four stitches and last 4 stitches as seed stitch.

Complete Chart A, and continue to work as established until piece measures 50”.

Next RS Row: Begin Chart B.

Work last inch in seed stitch. BO. Weave in ends. Wear it in peace.
